Moto Guzzi has revealed The Trip, a new 500cc-class neo-retro roadster that marks an important change for the Italian motorcycle brand. Unlike its traditional motorcycles, which are known for their longitudinal V-twin engines, the new model uses a modern parallel-twin powertrain and brings a more accessible riding experience to the lineup. The motorcycle has already been revealed ahead of its public appearance at EICMA 2026 in Milan, scheduled from November 3 to 8. It is expected to reach European dealerships in early 2027.
But there is another interesting detail for Indian enthusiasts: The Trip is closely linked to the Aprilia 457 platform, whose engine is manufactured at Piaggio’s Baramati facility in Maharashtra. This creates a strong India connection, although an official India launch has not been announced.
Here is everything we know about the new Moto Guzzi roadster, including its engine, design, features, India connection and expected availability.
Moto Guzzi Trip 500: A New Direction for the Brand
The Trip introduces a fresh design direction for Moto Guzzi. The motorcycle combines classic roadster styling with modern equipment, aiming to appeal to both experienced riders and people entering the middleweight motorcycle segment.
Its design features a round LED headlamp with a distinctive eagle-inspired lighting signature, a sculpted metal fuel tank and a clean, uncluttered body profile. The black-finished engine is deliberately left visible, giving the motorcycle a distinctive mechanical appearance.
Other highlights include gold-finished upside-down front forks, alloy wheels, a single-piece seat and an underbelly exhaust. The fuel tank carries the familiar Moto Guzzi eagle emblem, while the seat gets an embroidered ‘The Trip’ logo.
The motorcycle will be offered in three colours:
- Black Metropolis
- Green Grove
- Red Beat
Moto Guzzi has also introduced a special launch edition called The Opening.
India Connection: Is the Moto Guzzi The Trip Made in India?
This is one of the most interesting aspects of the new motorcycle.
Moto Guzzi and Aprilia are both part of the Piaggio Group. The Trip is closely related to the Aprilia 457 platform, which is used by the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457.
The Aprilia 457 engine platform is manufactured at Piaggio’s Baramati facility in Maharashtra. This has led to reports that The Trip is also being manufactured in India for international markets.
According to RushLane, 19 units of The Trip were exported from India during the first half of FY2027. This strengthens the India-manufacturing connection, although the company has not published a complete manufacturing breakdown.
For Indian buyers, however, there is an important distinction: manufacturing or exporting a motorcycle from India does not automatically mean it will be sold in the domestic market.
Moto Guzzi has not confirmed an India launch, dealership availability or local pricing for The Trip.
Engine and Performance: Aprilia 457 Connection
Moto Guzzi officially describes The Trip as a 500cc roadster with a parallel-twin engine delivering almost 48 hp. However, the company has not yet published the exact engine displacement or torque figure.
The engine is widely reported to be closely related to the 457cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin unit used in the Aprilia RS 457 and Tuono 457.
For reference, the Aprilia Tuono 457 produces 47.6 PS and 43.5 Nm of torque. These are Aprilia’s engine figures and should not be treated as the confirmed output figures for the Moto Guzzi.
The Trip is designed to deliver smooth throttle response and strong torque availability at lower engine speeds. It is also intended to meet the European A2 licence power limit, making it suitable for newer riders in markets where that licence category applies.
The motorcycle uses a six-speed transmission. Moto Guzzi also lists a quickshifter among the available technology and accessories, although buyers should check the final standard-equipment list for their market.
Features: TFT Display, Ride Modes and Smartphone Connectivity
Despite its retro appearance, The Trip gets a modern electronics package.
Its main highlight is a 3.6-inch circular TFT instrument display with smartphone connectivity. The screen provides riding information and supports integrated pictogram-based navigation.
The motorcycle also features a ride-by-wire electronic throttle, which enables three riding modes:
| Riding mode | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Road | Smooth response for everyday riding |
| Sport | More dynamic throttle response |
| Rain | Adjusted response for wet or slippery conditions |
The handlebar controls are backlit, making them easier to operate in low-light conditions.
A quickshifter and navigation-related functions are also part of the equipment or accessory offering. Their exact availability may vary by market and configuration.
Weight, Seat Height and Fuel Tank Capacity
Moto Guzzi has focused on making The Trip accessible and relatively easy to handle.
The official figures released by the brand include:
| Specification | Moto Guzzi The Trip |
|---|---|
| Engine type | Parallel-twin |
| Power | Almost 48 hp |
| Ready-to-ride weight | 180 kg |
| Seat height | 790 mm |
| Fuel tank capacity | 15 litres |
| Instrument display | 3.6-inch circular TFT |
| Riding modes | Road, Sport and Rain |
| Transmission | 6-speed |
The 790mm seat height should make the motorcycle accessible to a wider range of riders, while its 180kg ready-to-ride weight is relatively manageable for this category.
The 15-litre metal fuel tank should also provide useful capacity for everyday commuting and weekend rides. Actual riding range will depend on fuel consumption, which Moto Guzzi has not yet announced.
Suspension and Braking Hardware
The Trip gets premium-looking hardware, including gold-finished upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock setup.
The motorcycle also features disc brakes at both ends. However, Moto Guzzi has not yet published a complete specification sheet covering brake dimensions, suspension travel and all chassis measurements.
Its roadster-oriented design and alloy wheels suggest that the motorcycle is intended primarily for paved roads rather than serious off-road riding.
Moto Guzzi Trip 500 Price and India Launch
Moto Guzzi has not announced the official price of The Trip yet.
The motorcycle is expected to reach European dealerships in early 2027. Its appearance at EICMA 2026 should provide more clarity about market availability and final specifications.
There is currently no confirmed India launch date or Indian price. If Moto Guzzi decides to introduce The Trip here, its relationship with the locally manufactured Aprilia 457 platform could be an advantage. However, the brand’s domestic sales plans remain unknown.
Why The Trip 500 Is Important
The Trip is more than another new roadster for Moto Guzzi. It represents a move away from the brand’s traditional longitudinal V-twin formula towards a modern parallel-twin platform.
This could help Moto Guzzi attract younger riders and customers looking for a stylish middleweight motorcycle with modern electronics and manageable dimensions.
For India, the manufacturing connection makes the motorcycle particularly interesting. But until Moto Guzzi confirms local sales, buyers should not assume that an Indian-made version will automatically be available in Indian showrooms.
The next major opportunity to learn more about The Trip will be EICMA 2026, where additional market and specification details are expected.
